Matt House
“A project of reception, schooling and education in the Matt House in Cuddalore-Tamil Nadu-India to prepare orphaned, disadvantaged or abused girls to believe in a dream, that of a better future.”
Casa Matt was born in memory of Matteo, who loved studying and working, travelling, India and his children.
The story begins in 2004, when one of the most catastrophic disasters of the modern era occurred, the Tsunami that hit the Indian Ocean and in particular the southern region of Tamil Nadu.
Casa Matt, which interprets what Matteo would have done, is aimed at welcoming, schooling and educating in Casa Matt, orphaned, disadvantaged girls, in conditions of extreme poverty and loneliness, often victims of abuse and giving them a dream, that of believing in a better future, to be respected as daughters, as wives, as mothers, as workers, as professionals, as free and independent women.
Over the years, the girls have increased in number, today there are 35, from 4 to 17 years old, and their needs have evolved gradually showing the need for a larger and more modern Home and a suitable Staff to accompany them to the objective that the Matt Project sets itself, that of preparing them to achieve the goal of a better future life.
On April 7, 2018, in the presence of President Aldo Sacchi and CEO Stefano Sacchi, with their families, the New House was inaugurated in Cuddalore - Tamil Nadu, southern India, and Matt's dream of giving little girls a "New Matt House" came true.
Today, on a plot of land of about 1,500 m2, soon to be expanded, there is Casa Matt, 800 m2 of exposed red brick, with external walls in traditional Jail to create shade and natural ventilation, on 2 floors plus a large terrace with a view of the sea, the river and all the beautiful surrounding countryside.
The rooms are furnished in a simple and comfortable way: living room, study area, leisure area, dining room, dormitories, bathrooms, infirmary room, kitchen, laundry and service room, without forgetting the utilities necessary to complete a good welcome and education: reading places, computer places, wifi communication systems, TV, stereo and projection systems and security systems with video surveillance.
The staff is specialized and composed of 8 people who always live with the girls: a director, 2 teachers, 2 mammies, 2 cooks, 1 gardener and 1 driver/caretaker who does everything.
Casa Matt and all the staff have the goal of accompanying the girls to live and grow respecting themselves, the people and the things that surround them as their own good, to study and cultivate hobbies and passions, to form their own autonomy of thought that will be preparatory for their better tomorrow as daughters, wives, mothers, workers in a complicated society.
Casa Matt is the first recognized, courageous example of a modern shelter, schooling and education house in Tamil Nadu-South India.
